BACKGROUND
Move Against Poverty of Women Organization (MAPWO) is a not-for-profit, non-political, and nongovernmental humanitarian organization. MAPWO was established in 2016 to work alongside other national and international partners for poverty reduction and women empowerment focusing on alleviating the sufferings of the most vulnerable group of the society in different community structures such as rural, urban, IDPs, returnees, etc. intending to facilitate this vulnerable group to regain the dignity based on enhancing their technical capabilities to become skilled and gain sustainable income for contributing family economy and take an active part in the reconstruction and development of the country in all aspects ranging from livelihood to education, economic empowerment, governance, and social empowerment.

Education
– Community-Based Education (CBE) for children in remote areas with limited access to formal schools

Mobile health teams (MHTs)
Emergency Response
– Multipurpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) to meet urgent household needs
– Cash for Work (CfW) opportunities to support livelihoods during emergencies
– Food distribution to affected populations during disasters
– Winterization kit distribution to help families survive harsh winters
– Non-Food Items (NFI) kits distribution including blankets, hygiene kits, and essential supplies
– Shelter support for families affected by floods, earthquakes, or displacement
– Assistance for returning refugees, including food, cash, and essential household items
– Rapid response teams deployed to disaster-affected areas for immediate relief
– Coordination with local authorities and communities to ensure timely and effective assistance
Literacy
– Adult Literacy Programs to improve reading, writing, and numeracy skills
– Technical and Vocational Skills Training (TVET) for youth and women
– Home-based and income-generating skill development (handicrafts, food processing, sewing, etc.)
– Teacher training and capacity building for effective skills and literacy delivery
– Life skills and personal development integrated into the curriculum
– Promotion of gender equality by empowering women through education and skills

– Building and rehabilitating public schools in underserved areas

Today, with a dedicated team of 426+ qualified professionals and volunteers and an active presence in 14 provinces, MAPWO stands as a symbol of resilience, compassion, and progress — helping communities recover, rebuild, and thrive toward a sustainable and dignified future.
Our Progress
📚 40,000+ children enrolled in Community-Based Education (CBE), gaining access to learning in hard-to-reach communities.
👩🏫 7,890+ women empowered through literacy, basic education, and vocational skills training.
💉 Drug Addict Treatment Centers supported for adults, women, and children — including 20-bed centers in Bamiyan and Urozgan, and a 30-bed center in Paktika.
🏫 10 public schools constructed with UNICEF funding, enabling 10,000 boys and girls to access safe, quality education.
🌍 Active in 14 provinces, delivering humanitarian and development programs in partnership with UNICEF, WHO, UNESCO, Save the Children, and Terre des Hommes (Tdh).
